Today in our world…

Globalization at work: Ethiopia

Americans are at work all over the world.  We’re going to talk to someone who is living and working in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Ethiopia is next door to Somalia which ever since US troops were dragged through the streets of Mogadishu has been viewed as an exotic place of warlords and danger.  Recently, Ethiopian troops in Somalia to help put down an uprising were dragged through Mogadishu.  Additionally, Ethiopia’s long history of skirmishes with Eritrea, the country that borders it to the north, continues.

What is it like living in a country that has regular border conflicts with it’s neighbor?  What is reported in the news?  Should we be worried about these countries?  Are Americans getting enough news about the locations?  Are these countries getting enough news about America?

What is daily life like in a place like Addis Ababa?  What is work like?  What should Americans know about the country and the people?

Mental health: bipolar disorder, with guest co-host Mike Conway

Do you or someone you know have a mental illness?  Do you hesitate to answer that question?  Well, it’s gotten easier to talk about these things, but there still is a stigma.  People like Margaret Trudeau have helped a lot by talking about their illness, how they manage it, and how they fact life with it.  We’re going to spend an hour talking about mental health, with a special focus on bipolar disorder and how it affects people’s lives.

Plus, War News Radio and Media Minutes, if we can squeeze it all in!
