Not a coronation

Well, the Democratic race is still competitive, and ain’t it great?!  That we have two candidates that people are having a difficult time choosing between?  And a third that a lot of people like?  What a luxury!

But, having already said that I think Obama’s going to get it, this was a surprise and like many others, I am wondering what happened.  Well, here are some things going through my mind:

  • Tough to choose - People basically like both candidates and are having a hard time choosing between them.
  • Anti-Hillaryites are backing Edwards - they seem to be quite fired up.
  • The Iron my shirt effect - the radio comedians who disrupted the Hillary event the evening before the election may have helped Hillary pick up a few votes.  I have to say - they kinda made me want to give them the finger and vote for Hillary.  But NOT to protect her!  To wack at them.  But, of course, that is no reason to vote for someone to be President.  But, who the heck knows - for someone truly on the fence, it could have been the tipping point.

I know someone who is prominent in NH politics who met Hillary in a small function several months ago.  She said that is if everyone had a chance to meet Hillary in person, to see how engaging, smart, warm, and charming she is in person, that she would win the election.  However, because everyone isn’t going to meet her, my friend said she doesn’t think Hillary is going to be able to win nationally.

Perhaps what happened in NH is that in answering every single question put to her all over the state is the final three days, enough people felt they had ‘met’ her in person to win them over.

The question then is, what does this mean for the rest of the country?  Well, since the next contests are in states with much higher populations, followed by Super Tuesday, Hillary just isn’t going to be able to meet all those people.

So, much hunch is that Obama is still going to win.  And, I think the Democrats are going to win this election in any case, so this still leads to Obama the next Prez.

But, I could be wrong.  ;-)
